John Bucci
Founder

As the founder of At Ease Veterans Mortuary Services, I bring a unique perspective and deep personal connection to the mission of honoring veterans and providing compassionate support to their families. My journey began 75 years ago as a product of an immigrant family that sought refuge in the United States in the early 1950s, escaping the clutches of communism and certain peril. Our dream was to embrace the American ideals of freedom and opportunity.

Within my own family, the legacy of military service runs strong. My father, a veteran himself, instilled in me a profound appreciation for the sacrifices made by those who serve. Members of our extended family have also dedicated their lives to military service, spanning across branches such as the Army in Korea, the Navy in Japan, and even a Flight Surgeon in the Air Force. Currently, my own family includes a Marine Corps Captain and a PFC, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to serving our country.

Prior to establishing this non-profit organization, I and my late brother contributed to our nation's defense as civilian contractors, working diligently in the development of military hardware. However, it was my personal encounter with the funeral industry that sparked a desire to make a more meaningful impact. Following the loss of my father, I experienced firsthand the lack of compassion exhibited by a funeral director who seemed inconvenienced by our presence. This experience stayed with me, and when the opportunity arose, I knew it was time to pursue a career that would be both helpful and gratifying.

At the age of 50, with a young family by my side, I became a funeral director. This career change allowed me to channel my passion for serving others, especially those who have served our nation. However, my own life took an unexpected turn when I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Facing the prospect of limited time, I confronted the irony of suggesting to the families I served that they should get their affairs in order. It took a year of personal reflection and planning, but miraculously, I entered remission and was granted the gift of time.

With renewed perspective and a profound sense of gratitude, I now have six children, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. It is time for me to give back to the people who made my life possible—the brave men and women who have kept us safe. At Ease Veterans Mortuary Services is our family's gift, dedicated to assisting the families of those who have sacrificed so much.

In this non-profit endeavor, I aim to provide support and guidance to veteran families, ensuring they receive the care and recognition they deserve during their most vulnerable moments. With a deep understanding of the funeral industry, I acknowledge that while there may be occasional "bad seeds," the majority of funeral directors are compassionate and committed individuals who genuinely serve their families. Through this non-profit, I hope to create a lasting impact by assisting the families that have kept and continue to keep us safe.
